Solleveld produce is a family owned and operated business. Pieter and Nelina Solleveld are very passionate about growing Witloof and supplying you with fresh quality Witloof all year round. With many years of horticultural experience we have the skills to provide you with fresh tasty Witloof.
We are GAP certified and are dedicated to sustainably producing Witloof to the highest standards of quality while showing great respect and care for the environment.
We are based in the beautiful Wairarapa valley, which offers us ideal growing conditions for Witloof.
About Witloof
Witloof is a very unique vegetable. First a root is grown from seed outside in the soil which takes about 5 months, the roots are mechanically harvested, and then stored in a cool store until needed for the second step. The second step consists of taking the roots from the cool store and placing them in a dark hydroponic room where they sprout again, this time growing the actual Witloof. This process also ensures that Witloof is available fresh all year round.
Witloof is an exciting vegetable with a mild bitter and nutty flavour.
Witloof is often enjoyed raw in a salad adding a great crunchy texture. Check out our recipes for great tasty ideas.
Witloof should be firm, pointed, and have a white and yellow leaf colouring.
How to Store
Witloof must be kept refrigerated. Witloof is very light sensitive turning green and going overly bitter when exposed to the light for longer periods of time. Always eat salads as soon as prepared or store in the fridge till required.
